How to correctly comb Natural Hair AND Relaxed Hair

1. As the hair grows longer, stay AWAY from fine toothed combs and hard bristled brushes! Both items are very rough for the hair, cause breakage and unnecessary shedding. Use wide toothed combs and paddle type brushes. I hear denman brushes are great for detangling.

2. AVOID the rough handling. Instead treat it like fine silk because no matter how strong our hair may seem, it is the actually weakest of hair types.  Comb or brush in sections rather than all in one shot.
3. Moisturize moisturize moisturize! Find a good leave in that will keep the hair well moisturized. There are many moisturizers out there whether store bought, or natural alternatives. Its best to comb the hair when moisturized rather than combing it completely dry to further avoid breakage.

These videos are from  www.growafrohairlong.com Robin (founder of crown and glory technique) has great information on her site and offers great products and new ways to take care of afro hair. She offers a great method, whether transitioning, stretching, or natural to grow and care for black hair. She is also another reason why I initially started my hair journey.

Loving DH's Locs...

So I did DH's hair on Sunday and I was extremely pleased with myself... He had an interview to go on and I was trying to make sure he was pristine and sparkling.  He went to get a shapeup and I retwisted his hair. I started and have been maintaining his locs for a little over 5 months now and I am more pleased with these results more than ever. These are the first dreads I have EVER done (I started them with comb coils) so there was alot of experimenting. I got it down pat now! Beeswax is the I learned that the ALMOST hard way. I had to clarify multiple times to get the buildup out! It was lint city for a second. But we got through it. After much trial and error, I found what I will be using for his hair to loc. I was recommended ORS Lock and Twist gel, and I used it to twist the time before this, and I didnt like the hold too much. I didnt want to throw it away or give it up because I enjoyed the moisture and yes NO FLAKES. But anywho, this time around I washed his hair with Jamaican and Lime clarifying Shampoo (smells soooo good), conditioned with a dominican avocado conditioner (the brand has a pearl on it). His hair felt great, but, next time I will dilute the conditioner with water to avoid buildup.  Anywho, I used to ORS Lock and Twist gel at the roots and a little bit of the gel plus a TINY bit of honey on each loc. YES HONEY! It made his dreads look soooo good and neat and a little goes a LOOOONG way. After I finished I sat him underneath the dryer, and when he was done, I was extremely pleased. I then flat twisted each dread and VOILA! The results are below. I am a member/lurker at Nappturality.com and I thank the ladies over there I did aloooot of research before and after doing his locs. They are coming along beautifully. I couldn't stop starting at the man and he absolutely loved them.

My son wanted a piece of this blog action and after a long debate.... I let him.

Protective Hairstyle of the Week

Aww look at that beaut. This industrial sized hairstyle comes well equipped with ivory colored seat belts, to hold and maintain the hair when things may get a little rough. Why is this a protective style you may ask? LOL thats easy silly.... notice the hair swept up OFF the shoulders.... I dont think I see a single strand touching those blades... smart woman. Notice the massive football shaped size, and my does it look well cushioned! Not only is it stabilizing her balance, but its also a great protector for the head JUST IN CASE she may slip and fall. This protective style looks well moisturized and well balanced (PH if you will), I give it a difficulty level of 9.5762 and wowee... what a beautiful head full of hair. You go girl!
